Dear Friends,
Greetings from Kamandalu Ubud!

As things begin to settle down following the start of yet another year, we are grateful for the delayed onset of seasonal rain to keep the island looking refreshingly green. This late arrival is an important reminder of just how precious our water supplies are and how every single drop counts. Fortunately, the resort's own rice fields are almost ready to be harvested and we are expecting another decent crop of our own grown rice to be used by our culinary team.

Bali's cultural calendar has recently seen a number of major celebrations with ceremonial rituals conducted by followers of the Hindu faith. Nyepi or Silent Day saw all activity on the island come to a complete standstill for a period of 24 hours to mark Balinese New Year. The feat of keeping a place of Bali's size quiet is truly astounding and this auspicious occasion was observed by locals and visitors alike. If you happened to miss out on Nyepi this year, there are still plenty of cultural opportunities just waiting to be experienced. With its perfect blend of nature, art and tradition, Ubud is a charming destination that has something for just about everyone.

Blissfuly Yours,
Kamandalu Ubud

Nyepi Day is Balinese New Year and it recently took place on 9 March 2016 in accordance to an ancient calendar system following the dark moon of the spring equinox. Also known as Silent Day, all activity on the island of Bali came to a complete stand still and it was the ideal opportunity to take time out and reflect on life itself. Guests staying at Kamandalu Ubud during this cultural holiday were invited to witness a Fire War event that took place on the eve of Nyepi. Men from the nearby village of Nagi staged a mock war and threw flaming balls of dried coconut husks at each other to symbolize driving away any demons trying to disturb peace on Bali..
