Rijsttafel, meaning "rice table" in Dutch dates back to the Dutch colonial period, which spanned nearly 350 years in Indonesia.

The banquet-style meal combines the Indonesian tradition of eating dinner as a family and serving all of the seafood dishes at once, with the Dutch preference for much greater quantities.

At Kamandalu Resort and Spa, we have elegantly adapted this tradition to introduce you to the rich and exotic flavors of Indonesia's vast archipelago – the memory of which we hope will remain with you long after you leave Bali's beautiful shores.

Galungan Day
Galungan is one of the most important Balinese holidays along with Nyepi Day. Galungan day is celebrated excessively in every region in Bali every 210 days due to the Balinese calendar system.

The word Galungan is derived from Ancient Javanese word Dungulan which means victory or battle. In Balinese Galungan has the same meaning as Dungulan which also means victory. It is said to be the day when goodness won the battle against badness. Galungan is celebrated to remind humans that they should always fight the battle against bad habit, evil desires and inappropriate behaviors.
The day before Galungan is called Penampahan-a Balinese word which means slaughter. Some people usually slaughter pig as a symbol of laziness and other bad habits and use the meats for offerings given to the evil entities so that they won't annoy the harmony of the universe.

On Galungan Day itself, Kamandalu takes a part by making offerings, decorate the property and temples, while the whole family of Kamandalu is usually gathered to pray and visit the temple together. The most noticeable characteristic of Galungan is a decoration called penjor. Penjors are large bamboo pols decorated with coconut leaves, fruits, seeds, tubers, and coconuts which represent the content of nature and you'll see penjor raised outside of each Balinese homes.
The day ten days after Galungan is called as Kuningan which fall on 31st May 2014, and this day indicates the end of Galungan celebrations.

Perang Api (Fire War)
Perang Api (Fire War) is usually performed by young men one day prior to Nyepi Day. Using fire balls of dried coconut husks, the men throw the flaming balls at each other symbolizing the courage to drive demons away. The sparks of fire from the Perang Api symbolizes that a man's biggest enemy is himself and when he can overcome this, he will have the ultimate happiness...

Watching Perang Api (Fire War) only at Kamandalu Resort and Spa next year on Saturday, 20 March 2015 and Nyepi (Silent) Day on 21 March 2015.
