November - December 2017
Greetings from Kamandalu Ubud!
As we move closer towards the end of yet another year, it is time once again to count our blessings. Bali’s Hindu community is about to celebrate the most auspicious holiday on the island’s cultural calendar, which involves endless preparations and elaborate offerings. This is also an appropriate reminder to think about and support the villagers who have been temporarily evacuated from their homes on the slopes of Mount Agung. Although thousands have been displaced in preparation for an imminent volcanic eruption, we are grateful that the local authorities have put precautionary measures in place with astrong focus on safety.
Bali’s seasonal rains are now upon us and Ubud is looking refreshingly green. Our own onsite rice terraces continue to thrive and we are anticipating a bountiful harvest that everyone is welcome to share. Whether you choose to relax or spend your days sightseeing, we do hope that your time with us at Kamandalu Ubud is an enriching experience. Our unique village location provides the perfect setting if you are looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. Please feel free to reach out to us and let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your overall quality of stay.

|Galungan & Kuningan celebrations
When bamboo poles decorated with young coconut leaf embellishments start lining the streets of Bali, it means that Galungan Day is fast approaching. This auspicious occasion on the island’s cultural calendar marks the beginning of a 10-day religious festival celebrated by followers of the Hindu faith. Traditionally, preparations for Galungan Day involve the customary slaughter of pigs for communal feasts and the making of elaborate offerings.
On Galungan Day itself, everyone returns home to their ancestral villages to pray and reunite with extended family members. The underlying concept of this holiday is tocommemorate the victory of good against evil. Over the following days, symbolic rituals are performed and similarly Kuningan Day involves a special ceremony with offerings made from yellow turmeric rice to honour the spirits of defied ancestors.
|F3 Charity Event
Most people are aware by now that for well over a month Mount Agung has been subject to high levels of seismic activity and the possibility of a volcaniceruption has loomed over the island. Learning from the effects of the 1963 eruption, Bali was much better prepared this time around and precautionary measures were immediately put in place.
The recently downgraded alert means that many villagers who were previously evacuated from the exclusion zone can now to return to their homes. However, those living within a 6 to 7.5km radius from the catermust continue to reside in temporary sheltersfor the time being where they are surviving on emergency supplies from the government and aid agencies.
Fortunately, Kamandalu Ubud is located approximately 30 km (aerial distance) from the volcano and the situation here remains peaceful. As part of our own effort to support those in need, we have decided to forgo our annual F3 Party and host a F3 Charity Event instead. We aim to raise significant funds to continue supplying fresh food, water and daily necessities for the villagers still impacted by the Mount Agung crisis. We trust that our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative will help lift spirits and brighten their days.
Amazing Hotel, Amazing People, Amazing Stay!
Dianisgtz - Salzburg, Austria on TripAdvisor
I have no other words to start my review as this is the best Hotel so far where I had stayed!
It took us around 1 hour from the Airport to go to Ubud, once our taxi arrived at the entry of the hotel, the made a security check of the car. At the moment we put a foot out of the car, part of the staff was there welcoming us and helping with our luggage. We were received with a nice welcome "Lemongrass Lemonade" drink and they explained us everything about the hotel, they gave us a map of the hotel in order to easily find everything and then they took us to our room. The way to the room was like in a movie, going stone stairs down, opening the main wood doors at your villa and then opening the main room door. The room is quite big, we had a king size bed, a closet, mini bar, place for putting our luggage, 2 big and comfortable chairs with a table in between, and a traditional/decorative desk. The bathroom is divided into 2 parts: first, the toilet, sink and a big bathtub enough for 2 people completely lying. The second part is an outside shower with own small garden, which we found amazing! Also, the room has an own terrace with another mini garden and place to do some streching/yoga, warm-ups, etc and you have your own Bungalow with an outside kingsize bed on which you can relax, enjoy the atmosphere, read a book and even sleep.
The complete Staff of the hotel is amazing, honest, simple, friendly, kind, gentle and always willing to help/assist you on every single detail. The breakfast is a buffet, very big and with a nice variation of typical food, fruits and juices from the region, everything fresh and super tasty, and also they offer typical breakfast that guest usually gets while traveling (European breakfast type, American breakfast type). The pools are open 24 hours!! Just when is late night, they put a sign saying that there is no lifeguard on duty and you are on your own. On the small pool with view to the jungle, you can enjoy a "swimming breakfast" or even just relax and hear the nature around you. The main pool is divided into 2 parts, offering a small part for the kids (max. 60cm) and the adult part with 1.80 m. deep. There is also a bar in between the 2 parts of the pool.
The hotel offers a shuttle between Ubud Center (Ubud Market) and the Hotel every hour from 11 am till 9 pm, which is quite practical since in Ubud Center there are no "normal taxis" allowed to keep the business within the local people (motorbike-taxi). The house to do yoga was incredible, all walls open during the class, feeling the breeze and being able to disconnect your head from your daily life. We wrote a letter to the Manager regarding the great service in the entire hotel and he even replied us by sending an email within 2 hours after our checkout.
