This year the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival celebrates its 10 year anniversary, bringing together the best of Indonesian, South East Asian and international voices together to the magical setting of Ubud. Speak across all forms of story telling – from travel writing to song writing, plays, poetry, comedy and graphic novels.
One of Ubud Writer & Readers Festival Special Events, The Romance of Rice, will be held in Kamandalu Ubud on October 15, 2013. Some of the world's experts on this field will share their insights celebrating the most important ingredient in Asian cooking – rice.
Anthropologist J. Stephen Lansing will discuss his lifelong passion for Bali's majestic paddy fields and his part in creating the UNESCO world-heritage site of Jati Luwih. Ian Burnet who has received criticical acclaims for his book Spice Island will spice it up with swashbuckling stories of the ancient spice trade of the East Indies. Farah Quinn, Asia's celebrity chef, will add glamour with anecdotes about her favourite rice-based dishes. William Wongso, acclaimed authority on Indonesian food – will prepare Indonesian traditional culinary dishes covering the archipelago.
