Dear Friends,
Welcome back to Kamandalu Resort & Spa's bi-monthly newsletter for the months of November - December 2013.
We are proud to be a part of this year's tenth anniversary of Ubud Writers Readers Festival. Hundreds of writers and experts on various fields shared their expertise and experiences during those five-day festival. The festival's Special Event held at Kamandalu had the most attendants this year and we were very pleased to be a part of it.
The weather in Bali has been generous to us with clear blue skies and sunny days, the kind of weather that entices people from all over the world to come to Bali over and over again. Here in Kamandalu, the surrounding rice terraces are as picturesque as one can get: a vast of emerald green tapestry. In few weeks from now, their color will change into yellow, a sign that the rice paddies are ready to be harvested. We always look forward for that time as we will invite our guests to get muddy and have a first hand experience of cropping the paddies, truly an unforgettable experience for the guests.
From sunny Ubud, we hope to welcome many of you soon
Sincerely,
Francisca Widjaja
Director of Sales & Marketing

Cooking Demo with Chef Wan |
In show casing the best of South East Asian cuisines, Kamandalu Ubud has recently invited one of the world celebrity chefs, Chef Wan from Malaysia to share his expertise in Malaysian cooking. Some of the Malaysian inspired dishes cooked by Chef Wan at Kamandalu was: BibikNeo'sNyonyaLaksa (coconut based curry soup that includes shrimps and bean curd puffs) and Pineapple Chutney (a fresh tangy pineapple pickle dip with grilled food).
Chef Wan demonstrated his lively cooking skills amidst a charming Balinese village setting and lush tropical garden, which are a few of Kamandalu's unique features. Under the clear tropical blue sky the celebrity chef energetically explained the herbs, spices and cooking method of these Malaysian dishes. Refreshing and spicy, sweet and sour, the two dishes cooked by Chef Wan in one fine morning at Kamandalu Ubud are few representatives of what South East Asian dishes are like and they surely are the perfect companions while

The Romance of Rice |
Last Tuesday, on October 15, 2013, Kamandalu Ubud was privileged to hold an Ubud Writers and Readers Festival Special Event, 'The Romance of Rice'.
This special event panelists were expert on their field: William Wongso, Farah Quinn, Janet DeNeefe, Ian Burnet and Stephen J Lansing. While each expert was explaining his/her own specialized topics, the guests at this special event were enjoying lunch that was served by Kamandalu Ubud.
In just one lunch, guests were able to taste seven different Indonesian dishes from the archipelago. The Soup Jagaq (Eastern Kalimantan Native CousCous Vegetables Soup); The main course, we called Tumpeng Nusantara: NasiLiwet (Central Javanese fragrant coconut rice) served with Rendang Padang (Western Sumatra caramelized beef curry) and AyamBumbuRujak (Eastern Java grilled chicken in mild chili coconut sauce) and ArsikIkanBatak (Northern Sumatra Fish Simmered in Torch Ginger Flower, Lemon Grass, Szechuan Pepper) and Urap Pakis (Balinese Spiced Ferns)and Kering Tempe Kacang (crispy spiced caramelized fermented soybean). The last but not the least is our Kamandalu'ssweetnest, Kue Lumpur KolakPisang (Pumpkin Pancake Souffle and Banana Stew in Coconut Milk and Palm Sugar).
Surrounded by Kamandalu's beautiful setting against the green rice paddies, the talks of Rice echoed in Petulu Restaurant that sunny day. The delectable 3 course Indonesian menu served by Kamandalu Ubud was wonderfully served and a great companion that ended this year Ubud Writer Reader Festival Special Event; a perfect ending.
